Dear friends and loiterers
The LRM will gather for a wander on the First First Sunday of 2026 – Sunday January 4th. Join us 2pm outside Manchester Central Library where we will go for a walk together that maybe, just maybe, will help make the year better.
No grand proclamations or unrealistic, self flagellating resolutions but there will be convivial, curious and critically engaged chat with interesting folk. And, taking our good intentions onto public space, sharing, holding open, questioning and sharing has got to be better than hiding behind curtains or building borders and sowing division Instead. We will be exploring the power of words, signs and symbols and reconfiguring the poetry of the pavement.
As ever, all welcome and its free because these streets belong to everyone. The pace will be inclusive and the direction set by the collective, please do let me know if you have any access needs or any questions. We will walk for around two hours, and finish somewhere suitable for a brew and blether.
If there is snow or extreme weather please check in Sunday morning; we will confirm by noon if there is a change of plans

The photos you can find on insta and facebook are from last month, December 2025, when Will facilitated a journey to find the centre of town (its an ongoing quest). We talked about nipples and belly buttons, squats, security, magic circles, dishonest billboards, high rise luxury lifestyles and much more. I suspect we were all a bit surprised to finish at Pioneer Quay, one of my favourite unruly, gently feral and – yes, forgive me – liminal spaces in Manchester. It refuses to be what is expected of it. The name came from a competition, like Truth or Consequences in Albuquerque where I once had an epiphany, but the commemorative plaque is now submerged in greenery so the winners are elusive.
Later this month is a very special online event to launch The Feminist Art of Walking into cyberspace.
It’s happening Wednesday January 28th, 6.30-8.00pm.
I will be joined by a treasury of fantastic guests – some of the wonderful artists and activists I interviewed for the book. I am really excited by this one, and glad to open up celebrations to folk who couldn’t make the tour (or indeed those who did and want more). I’ll share more details soon, please register here – it’s free of course, but you need to book to get the zoom link: https://tinyurl.com/FAoWONLINE
I hope to see you on the streets, or on a screen, soon and in the meantime please take care
Love and golden apples
