Dear friends, loves and loiterers
I hope you are finding some comfort and magick in the glorious Autumn light. Things can feel so overwhelming at the moment but I continue to find inspiration in the kindness, community, resistance and strength I see around me. It feels strange sometimes to keep walking together, alone, but it feels important too. It is something; another small step into the future together, a sharing of stories, a keeping connected and making new maps. Of course it isnt enough and I know everyone who wanders with us does a myriad of other things too but loitering is something. And it feels precious to many I know and so we will keep going.
This month, October, will be another new experiment as we adapt an old favourite LRM game for these new circumstances. John will be playing cards to direct us; more will be revealed on Sunday but as usual all are welcome to wander with us. You can be indoors or out, anywhere and at your own pace. We just ask that you take care of yourself, your environment and anyone else in your vicinity and please remember to respect your local Covid related rules.
I will start walking at 2pm BST Sunday 4th October for those who want a synchronised wander. There will be live conversation and photo sharing via whatsapp. A private group will be created just for this event so if you want to be part of it please email mlrose@thelrm.org with your number or send an SMS or whatsapp message to 07974929589 by 10am Sunday. Please don’t forget the international code if you are outside the UK.
The derive instructions will also be posted live on our facebook group “the loiterers resistance movement” on the blog at thelrm.org and twitter @thelrm #LRM1020 for you to adapt and interpret the instructions as you wish. Please do share walk reports and reflections with us as I always love to see where you have gone and whats been discovered.
Thanks to John for facilitating this months walk. I'd love to know if anyone has any ideas about how we could evolve in the coming months. My heart yearns to gather in the real world but there have been so really lovely benefits of virtual walking, not least being joined by loiterers from outside Manchester, connecting with new ideas and improving access in unexpected ways. If you want to suggest prompts, facilitate a walk or suggest a new way to share space and discuss matters vaguely psychogeographical please do get in touch. We don’t really have any rules except First Sunday should be interesting, inclusive, and free (so no super spendy tech needed).
It would be wonderful to wander with you
Take care
Love and golden apples
